Our May Creativity Central had us creating mosaics for the first time - out of paper! You would never guess, by the results, that this was our first time!
We started out pretty tidy! You can see the quick sketch starting point on the lightweight cardboard. |
| You can see it gets messier fast, but it's a FUN mess! |
| We cut or tore the colors we wanted to use into irregular shapes. |

| Everyone hard at work |
| This project requires a lot of colorful creativity AND focus! |

An example of how a design progresses (This is the design based on Nicole's pet bird) |

Here is how much got done in about two hours. She will finish her pretty project next time! |
| Here is how Allyson's wonderful sea horse started. |
The sea horse is coming out perfectly, but even more important, look at that lovely smile! Happy times at Creativity Central! |
| This is how much of the sea horse project was finished in about two hours |
Especially AMAZING was Carol's hummingbird project! We all loved Carol's choice of purple, blues and greens. |

We all loved Caroline's Sun Cat! What a creative theme! |
How we did it: In addition to tissue paper and basic kid grade construction paper, we also used a little left over holiday wrapping paper. We think that there is no paper that you can't use for this! The first step was for each member of the group to cut out 8"x10" rectangle of light weight cardboard. Nicole then sketched onto the cardboard whatever the Creativity Central member wanted on their cardboard - so one person chose a sea horse, one person chose a hummingbird, one person chose Nicole's pet bird, and one person chose a cat face that was also a sun! After that, every one tore or cut different colors and textures of papers into little irregular shaped pieces and started the process of gluing on the paper chips using Elmer's glue sticks. Here are some photos. Note: These projects will be continued into the next session, but the hours flew by! No one could believe it was time to leave!
